GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro men’s golf coach Terrance Stewart announced Thursday the signing of Will Bowman and Drew Younts as a part of the National Letter of Intent program’s early signing period.
“I am very proud to have Will and Drew join our program,” said Stewart. “They are both solid student-athletes who excel on the golf course and in the classroom.”
Bowman currently attends Forsyth Country Day. A native of Greensboro, Bowman is a three-time all-conference and two-time all-state selection. He was his team’s scoring average leader at 35.36 for nine holes, logging eight sub-par rounds among 28 played.
He won the AJGA Ringold Junior Classic and finished third at the AJGA’s Hargray Junior in Hilton Head, SC. He also finished ninth each of the last two years at the North Carolina Junior Championship.
Younts is the top-ranked high school senior according to the Carolina Golf Association. He is ranked in the Top 60 in the nation among high school seniors. A three-time Metro 4A All-Conference selection and two-time Conference Player of the Year, he currently attends Northwest Guilford HS where he helped his team to the NC4A State Championship last year.
He has been the medalist in 18 events in his high school career and won the NC4A High School Tournament last year, firing a 69 in the opening round and a 72 in the second round. He qualified and participated in the USGA Juniors in 2003 and 2004 and was the medalist at the 2003 qualifier. He won both the 2004 CGA North Carolina Junior Amateur and the 2004 Tarheel Junior.
Younts also won the 2005 North Carolina Players’ Championship and participated in the 2005 USGA Amateur at Merion and Philadelphia CC in Pennsylvania.
