ASHEVILLE, NC – UNC Greensboro men’s golfer JD Bass won the amateur division of the 46th annual Skyview Open at Asheville Municipal Golf Course. Bass posted a final round 70 on Thursday, July 14 to win the event by 13 strokes with a three-day 54-hole total of 196 (61-65-70).
"That was the best ball-striking week of my life," said Bass. "I've been putting in a lot of work with my swing coach, Jon Rector, and I've practiced quite a bit. I've been getting better, and it all finally started to click."
In the opening round on Tuesday, Bass fired an incredible 11-under 61, which tied both the course and tournament record, and gave the Fairview, NC native an eight-stroke advantage. He posted a seven-under 65 on Wednesday to take a 10-stroke lead heading to the final round.
Bass, who will be a junior at UNCG this fall, was named second team All-Southern Conference this past season. He averaged just under 74 shots per round and had five Top-20 finishes in nine regular season tournaments. He had two Top-10 finishes, including tying for seventh at the Birkdale Collegiate Classic.
