CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – UNCG closed out the 2005-06 season with an eighth place finish at the Cav Classic, which was held at the par-72, 6,875-yard Birdwood Golf Course and hosted by the University of Virginia.
Maryland won the team title with a score of 871, besting Virginia’s Orange team by eight shots. Virginia Orange’s Brad Tilley won the individual title on the seventh playoff hole, defeating North Carolina State’s Stephen Lewton and Maryland’s Blaine Peffley.
The Spartans were eighth in the final team standings, carding a 303 in Sunday’s final round. UNCG’s Nathan Stamey finished in a four-way tie for seventh, four shots off the pace after firing a final round 71. Stamey tied for second at the Southern Conference Men’s Golf Championship two weeks ago.
