UNCG defends Carolina Cup title with 7-6 win over High Point

SILER CITY, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro men’s golf team defended its Carolina Cup title for the third straight year with a narrow 7-6 victory over High Point in this annual Ryder Cup style format golf event, which took place in snow, ice and sleeting conditions at the 6,639-yard par-72 Siler City County Club.

In singles play, UNCG’s victories included Kent Copeland over Zach Pranger 5 & 4, Kyle Stockton took down Andrew Mespelt 1-up, David Heyen won 2 & 1 over Daniel Windoff and Burton Wood was victorious by forfeit over Patrick Rutter.

High Point garnered singles victories from Ryan Wilson over JD Bass 3 & 2 and Marc Issler over Ryan Heisey 2 & 1.

In the doubles events, the High Point duo’s of Issler and Mespelt won 2 & 1 over Ryan Heisey and Stockton, along with Brian Hayes and Windoff winning 1-up over UNCG’s Bradley Leeper and Heyen.

UNCG’s Lowder and Bass picked up a 3 & 2 doubles win over Wilson and Rutter.

The scoring rules are one point for a win and .5 point for a half/tie.
