Trevis Simpson Named Blue Chip Performer
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG men's basketball junior guard Trevis Simpson (Douglas, Ga./Coffee) has been named this week's Blue Chip Performer sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina. The Blue Chip Performer is chosen weekly from all sports in season and runs throughout the 2012-13 UNCG athletics campaign.
Simpson became the 19th player in UNCG men's basketball history to reach the 1,000-career point mark with his 14 point-effort Saturday night against The Citadel in the Spartan's Southern Conference opening 84-54 victory. He became the third fastest Spartan to reach the 1,000-point mark, needing just 64 games in his career to accomplish the feat. He trails only former Spartans Yusuf Stewart (59 games) and Kyle Hines (61 games).
Simpson leads the Southern Conference in scoring as he averages 19.3 points per game through the first seven games of the season. He has scored in double figures all seven games and has tallied over 20 points twice this season. The preseason All-SoCon selection became the first Spartan in program history to lead the SoCon in scoring last year as he averaged 18.3 points per game as a sophomore.
