Junior Trevis Simpson (Douglas, Ga./Coffee) leads the team and the SoCon in scoring at 22.0 points per game. Simpson has posted the top-two scoring outputs in the league this season with his 26 points against Winston-Salem State and his 25-point effort against Virginia Tech. He enters Sunday's game just 44 points shy of becoming the 19th player in UNCG basketball history to reach the 1,000-point mark as he has 956 points in the first two seasons and first four games of this year.
Senior guard Derrell Armstrong (Mechanicsville, Md./Allegany CC) is second on the team in scoring as he averages 15.5 points, despite coming off the bench all four games. Armstrong leads the Spartans' reserves which are averaging 31.5 points per game this season. Freshman forward Kayel Locke (Owings Mill, Md./McDonogh) adds to the bench scoring as he is third on the team at 11.0 points per game, also without making a start this season.
Sunday's game marks the first ever meeting between UNCG and Rutgers. The game is just the fourth meeting all-time between the Spartans and a member of the Big East Conference. UNCG owns an 0-3 record all-time against Syracuse with their last meeting coming December 10, 2002 (92-65) in the Carrier Dome.
Rutgers enters Sunday's game with a 3-1 record on the season and will be making its first visit outside the Garden State of New Jersey. The Scarlet Knights opened the season with a four-point loss to St. Peter's before posting victories over Sacred Heart, Princeton and Boston. Rutgers is averaging 69.8 points per game while limiting opponents to just 62.2 points per game.
Eli Carter leads the Scarlet Knights in scoring at 16.3 points per game as he has hit a team-high nine three-pointer. Carter is 16-of-17 (94.1 percent) from the charity stripe and is third on the team with 10 assists. Myles Mack is second on the team in scoring at 12.5 points per game and has hit six three-pointers. Mack and Carter have combined for all 16 of Rutgers' made three-pointers.
Wally Judge leads the Scarlet Knights on the glass at 9.0 rebounds per game while adding 7.5 points per game. Judge is shooting 52.2 percent (12-of-23) from the field. Dane Miller is second on the team on the glass at 6.8 caroms per game.

Men's Basketball Hosts Rutgers Sunday Afternoon
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men's basketball team continues its four-game home stand Sunday afternoon as the Spartans return to the Greensboro Coliseum hosting Big East member Rutgers in non-conference play at 2 p.m. The game will be carried live on the radio at 1302 WCOG AM and online at www.uncgspartans.com with both and audio and video stream available for free.
The Spartans enter Sunday's game with a 1-3 overall record with a victory over Winston-Salem State while dropping hard-fought games to High Point, East Carolina and most recently Virginia Tech. UNCG held or was within one possession of the lead late in the second half of all three losses this season, with two of those loses coming on the road. The Spartans enter the game as the Southern Conference's top scoring team, averaging 78.5 points per game this season.
