Byrd, a 6-1 guard, is a three-year letterwinner at East Burke High School for head coach Jon Hancock. He was named the Catawba Valley Conference Player of the Year and the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association District 10 Player of the Year last season as a junior. He averaged 24.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game last season leading Cavaliers to a 20-8 record.
"I have been watching Clay since his freshman year in high school," Miller said. "He has always been a tremendous outside shooter, but what excites me most about Clay is how much he has improved every year during his high school career. His work ethic is unique for a young man his age and it extends beyond basketball and into the classroom. I am excited about having him join our family at UNCG."
Byrd entered his senior season with 1,502 career points scored for East Burke as he has averaged at least 20 points for the past two years. He is a two-time All-Greater Hickory selection was named The News Herald Burke County Player of the year as a junior. He is rated the No. 19 player in the state of North Carolina and the No. 126 shooting guard in the nation by ESPN.com.
Saddler, a 6-4 guard, is a three-year letterwinner at St. Frances Academy for head coach Nick Myles. Saddler is rated the No. 71 guard/forward in the class of 2013 by ESPN.com and the ninth-best Maryland prospect overall. He was named Second Team All-Baltimore Catholic League as a junior when he averaged 15 points per game, while adding 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per contest.
"I am thrilled that Tevon has decided to join our family at UNCG," Miller said. "He has great size, length and versatility for a college guard. He has the ability to score the ball, but what we love about him as a staff is his ability to affect the game in so many different ways. He really has great vision with the ball in his hands and he can guard multiple positions on the defensive end of the floor.
Outlaw, a 6-5 forward, is a three-year letterwinner at Person County High School for head coach Charles Dacus. He averaged 22.8 points and 14.8 rebounds as a junior leading Person to a 22-6 record and an appearance in the sectional finals of the state playoffs. He is rated the No. 14 player in the state by ESPN.com and 120th small forward in the nation. He participated in Dave Telep's Carolina Challenge, which features 80 of the top underclassmen in North Carolina.
"Tyrone is a strong, athletic wing that is physically ready for college basketball right now," Miller said. "He is a natural scorer and he has a knack for finding the ball off the board. We love Tyrone's leadership qualities as well as his maturity level for a young man his age. He is a terrific student and the Student Body Vice President at Person County High School. I couldn't be more excited for Tyrone to join our family."
Outlaw was named the PAC-6 4A Player of the Year while leading in points, rebounds, assists (4.1) and blocks (4.9). He scored a career-high 30 points, in a 32-minute game, in the State 4A playoffs while leading Person to a tournament victory over Hillsdale hitting the game-winning shot at the buzzer.

Men's Basketball Inks Three High School Standouts

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG men's basketball head coach Wes Miller announced the signings of three high school standouts in Clay Byrd (Connelly Springs, N.C./East Burke), Tevon Saddler (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances) and Tyrone Outlaw (Roxboro, N.C./Person County) to national letters of intent Thursday during the early signing period. This marks the first full class signed under Miller's direction as the reigning Southern Conference Coach of the Year had the interim tag removed last March.
"I am ecstatic about Clay, Tevon and Tyrone signing with us today," Miller said. "All three young men are high-level players, hard workers and exceptional students. I am confident that all three embody the qualities we are looking for in UNCG basketball players. Our program definitely got better today and we officially welcome them to our basketball family."

Saddler earned Most Valuable Player honors at the Under Armour Brandon Jennings Invitational last year. He was named the Breakout Player of the Under Armour Grind Session event in Chicago prior to his junior season.
