Kelvin McNeil Named Blue Chip Performer

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG men's basketball fifth-year senior forward Kelvin McNeil (Newport News, Va./Delaware) has been named this week's Blue Chip Performer sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina after helping the Spartans post a 102-74 victory over Bluefield State Saturday night in an exhibition game in front of 1,842 fans at Fleming Gymnasium.

McNeil made his first appearance as a Spartan after transferring in from Delaware and posted a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds in just 20 minutes of action. He was second on the team in scoring while leading the team on the glass in the 28-point victory.

McNeil connected on 6-of-8 from the free throw line while hitting 4-of-11 from the field, including his first three-pointer of the game. He also contributed on the defensive end, posting a team-high four steals while getting the start at forward.

McNeil and the Spartans open the 2012-13 season Friday evening as they travel across the Triad to face High Point. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Millis Center.
