CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UNCG sophomore guard Trevis Simpson was named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association's University Division All-State Men's Basketball Second Team, the organization announced Tuesday.
Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals. NCCSIA members voted for the all-state teams. Teams are selected for men and women in both the college and university (NCAA Division I) divisions.
Simpson led the Southern Conference in scoring at 18.3 points per game, becoming the first Spartan to ever lead the league in scoring. He was a first-team all-conference selection by the SoCon's coaches and media. The Douglas, Ga., native was also a first-team National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 22 selection.
Simpson, who had 13 games of 20 or more points on the season, scored 550 total points in 2011-12, the fifth-most in a single season in school history. He also averaged 4.2 rebounds per game as he helped the Spartans win their first-ever outright SoCon North Division title.
UNCG finished 13-19 overall but 10-8 in league play. Simpson helped the Spartans to 11 wins in their last 16 games.
