UNCG Athletics teams again with Fox 8 Gifts for Kids

GREENSBORO, N.C. — UNCG Athletics and WGHP FOX8 are teaming up once again for the FOX8 Gifts for Kids campaign to assist families in the Piedmont Area during the holiday season.

FOX8 Gifts for Kids began 22 years ago, and UNCG has been a significant part of the program for more than 15 years. Recent events in the economy have increased the number of families in need. In 2010, FOX8 Gifts for Kids helped the Salvation Army serve more than 20,000 children in the Piedmont Area Christmas.

With this year's campaign UNCG Athletics is continuing to engage as many people as possible to demonstrate its commitment to the community. Donations of either gifts or money will be accepted during a pair of basketball games over the next seven days:

-Dec. 3 women's basketball game vs. Samford at Fleming Gymnasium (free ticket with a donation)

-Dec. 5 men's basketball game vs. Elon at Greensboro Coliseum

-UNCG student-athletes will also collect donations on campus Nov. 29 in the Caf Atrium, and Dec. 5 at the EUC and the Caf Atrium.

Among some of the more important gift ideas are clothes, plush toys, sleepers, developmental toys and diapers for infants; dolls, trucks, educational toys, riding toys, tricycles, books and blocks for toddlers; bikes (with helmets), scooters, Legos, action figures, remote control cars, footballs, basketballs, Barbies, craft kits, hand-held games and board games for children ages 6-11 years; and personal CD players, jewelry, watches, cameras, make-up, cologne, bath & body items, gift certificates, video games, backpacks and purses for children ages 12-18 years.

Last year, UNCG Athletics raised more than $2,500 in cash and gifts. For more information, contact Kwadjo Steele, assistant athletic director for student-welfare, at 336-334-4765.
