Brackett, Henry lead Gold past Blue in men’s basketball scrimmage

GREENSBORO, N.C.—Aloysius Henry and Aaron Brackett combined for 31 points and 25 rebounds to lead the Gold team to a 62-53 win over the Blue in UNCG's annual Blue-Gold Scrimmage, Sunday at Fleming Gym.

The 6-foot-10 Henry led all scorers with 19 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the field and a 1-of-4 effort from the free throw line, while also adding 11 rebounds. Brackett scored just 10 points but was 6-of-7 from the line and grabbed a game-high 14 boards. Overall, the Gold squad owned a 59-33 rebounding advantage.

Also enjoying solid outings for the Gold were sophomore swingman Trevis Simpson, who added 16 points and seven rebounds. Junior guard Derrell Armstrong chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds.

Freshman forward Nick Paulos led the Blue squad with 15 points, while junior guard Korey Van Dussen and sophomore forward Cody Henegar each scored 10. Van Dussen led the Blue team with 10 rebounds and had a game-high four assists. Henegar had seven boards and a pair of blocks.

Neither team shot particularly well, with Gold shooting 39.1 percent (25-64) to Blue's 27.9 percent effort (17-61).

Blue enjoyed an advantage at the free throw line with a collective 15-of-18 effort, while Gold struggled to an 11-of-19 mark at the line.

The Spartans play their only exhibition game on Nov. 3 when they host Greensboro College at 7 p.m. at Fleming Gym.
