Simpson named to SoCon All-Freshman Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG freshman sensation Trevis Simpson has been recognized by the league's head coaches by being named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team, the conference office announced on Wednesday.

UNCG has now had a member on the SoCon All-Freshman team the past three seasons after Damian Eargle earned the honor in 2008-09 and teammate Kyle Randall was named to the All-Freshman team last season.

A native of Douglas, Ga., Simpson has been a consistent presence for UNCG this season from his wing position. Simpson is second on the team in scoring at 11.4 points per game and 3.2 rebounds a contest.

Simpson, who was limited early in the season due to a shoulder injury, has seen action in 25 games this season and has averaged 22.4 minutes per game despite only starting in seven games.

He turned in his best performance of the season in the 77-69 win over Davidson on Jan. 17. In that game, Simpson scored a career-high 33 points on 12-15 shooting from the field, including a 4-6 mark from behind the arc.

In SoCon games, Simpson has been even better as he averaged 13.9 points per game in those 16 games. He also shot the ball exceptionally as he was 80-159 (50.3%) from the field and even shot nearly 40 percent from behind the arc.

The Spartans will kick off its stay at the Southern Conference Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn. on Friday as they face Davidson in the first round at 2 p.m. in McKenzie Arena.
