GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG athletics department announced Thursday that the men's basketball program will appear on television no fewer than seven times during the 2010-11 season.
Six of UNCG's seven nonconference games against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents have been picked up by regional and national cable television affiliates. In addition, the Spartans are guaranteed at least one appearance in the Southern Conference's television package on SportSouth when the league office announces that slate later this fall.
In the six games that were announced Tuesday, UNCG will appear on ESPNU twice, FSN-South twice and Comcast SportsNet regional affiliates twice. With one of the two Comcast SportsNet games also being picked up by New England Sports Network (NESN), five of the six games will be available on Direct TV, while all six will be available through Dish Network. Further clearances of the six games may come later after ESPN announces its Full Court lineup.
Because Comcast SportsNet has recently launched several new regional networks, including Comcast SportsNet Baltimore – a spin-off from Comcast Mid-Atlantic that is now becoming Comcast SportsNet Washington, clearances for those games will be determined at a later date.
"We are really excited about having the opportunity to play on television more than ever before," said Dement. "We see this as a great reward from television for playing such an outstanding schedule and a good tool in our recruiting."
The Spartans' home opener with Florida State on Sunday, Nov. 14, will tip-off at 3:30 p.m. and be televised by FSN-South and will also be shown on FSN-Florida. A week later on Nov. 21, UNCG will host Virginia Tech at 1 p.m. in a game that will be shown on Comcast SportsNet and the NESN cable network in the New England area.
UNCG will be on television four times in the month of December. The Spartans will make their second Comcast SportsNet appearance of the season on Dec. 8 at Maryland for a 7:30 p.m. tip. A week later on Dec. 15, UNCG's 7 p.m. game at Wake Forest in the Joel Coliseum will be shown on ESPNU.
Sunday, Dec. 19, will see the Spartans travel to Littlejohn Coliseum to take on Clemson and that 5 p.m. game will be televised by FSN-South. The Spartans will return to ESPNU on Dec. 29 when defending national champion Duke visits the Greensboro Coliseum for a 7 p.m. start.
Traditionally, the conference's package includes one or two television appearances per school. In addition, that package has also previously included the conference semifinals. The SoCon Men's Basketball Championship's title game has also been televised by either ESPN or ESPN2 each year, as well. The 2011 title game will be shown on ESPN2 at 9 p.m. on Monday, March 7.
UNCG men's basketball season tickets are on sale now for all 15 home games at the Greensboro Coliseum. Season ticket packages start at $99 in the upper level and $149 in the lower level. UNCG men's basketball season ticket benefits include reserved parking, premium seat locations, UNCG women's basketball season tickets (subject to availability), an exclusive pre-sale to purchase single-game tickets before the general public, promotions and special merchandise offers.
