GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNC Greensboro Director of Athletics Kim Record confirmed Wednesday that the men's basketball game between UNCG and Samford on Jan. 23 will be played on-campus at Fleming Gymnasium.
The Spartans are in their first season playing men's basketball home contests at the Greensboro Coliseum. However, university officials agreed to move that game back to campus so that the Coliseum can accommodate a concert that night. Season ticket holders received a letter notifying them of the change earlier this week.
"We looked at a variety of options for the game," said Record. "Unfortunately, it isn't an easy game to move because of travel partners and other scheduled games. In our partnership with the Greensboro Coliseum, we understand that a conflict like this may occasionally occur. The Coliseum staff has been great in working with us on a lot of scheduling needs and this was just one that we couldn't solve, so we will play back on-campus at Fleming Gymnasium."
The Jan. 23 game is slated for 4 p.m. The UNCG women's basketball team is also home that day, hosting College of Charleston at 1 p.m. A plan for reseating season ticket holders and those who have already purchased tickets for the men's basketball game will be announced after the holidays.
