UNCG's Ben Stywall named to NCCSIA all-state squad

GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNC Greensboro forward Ben Stywall was named to the all-state squad's first team on Wednesday by the North Carolina College Sports Information Association.

Stywall, a native of Charlotte, N.C., became the first Spartan to ever average a double-double and the first player in the Southern Conference since 2000-01. He earned NABC All-District honors, all-conference honors from the SoCon coaches, first-team from the Southern Conference Media Association, and second-team All-SoCon Tournament honors.

He finished eighth in the league in scoring at 14.3 points per game and led the league in rebounding at 10.4 rebounds per game. He had a double-double in 11 of 18 league games this season and added another one in the conference tournament. He had a league-best 15 double-doubles for the year, breaking Kyle Hines' single-season mark.

This season, Stywall also ranked eighth in the SoCon in field goal percentage (.486) and third in steals (1.5 per game).

Stywall set a school mark for rebounds in a season with 323. He finished tenth in school history in career points with 1,245 and second in career rebounds with 961.

He was joined on the first team by High Point's Nick Barbour, Campbell's Jonathan Rodriguez, Appalachian State's Donald Sims and Charlotte's Shamari Spears. Davidson's Jake Cohen, Elon's Adam Constantine, Charlotte's Derrio Green, Campbell's Junard Hartley and East Carolina's Brock Young earned second-team honors.
