Blue tops White in scrimmage behind Clement's 19 points
GREENSBORO, NC – Behind Landon Clement's game-high 19 points, the Blue defeated the White, 64-51, in the annual Blue-White men's basketball scrimmage Saturday evening at Fleming Gym.
Clement has obviously made the adjustment to a deeper three-point line. The sophomore knocked down five three-pointers to help erase an early White lead and have his team coast to the win.
Freshman Damien Eargle chipped in with 14 points for the Blue. After a slow start, Mikko Koivisto had 16 points to lead the White team.
The teams played two 15 minute halves making for a workout of just over an hour for close to a thousand fans in attendance.
The White opened the game with a 6-2 lead, but five points by Eargle helped Blue tie the game at 8-8. That sparked an 18-4 run to give the Blue a 20-10 lead that it wouldn't relinquish. Clement hit three straight three-pointers at one point, the last of which made it a 23-12 Blue lead with six minutes left in the opening half.
Koivisto, who knocked down 80 three-pointers last season – the second-most in a single-season in school history, didn't hit his first trey until 43.6 seconds remaining in the first half. But it was part of a four-point play that got the White team back to within eight at the intermission.
Clement knocked down a pair of three-pointers to open the second half, however, to stretch the lead back to double figures and the Blue coasted home for the win from there.
