NEW YORK – Former UNC Greensboro men’s basketball players Ronnie Burrell and James Maye will be a part of the rosters when two NBA Summer Leagues kick-off this weekend.
Maye, 25, will play for the New Jersey Nets in the Pepsi Pro Summer League in Orlando, FL from July 9-13. Training camp opened Thursday in Orlando. The team will play its first game on Monday night against Orlando. Maye, who wrapped up his UNCG career in 2003 and played most of last season in the NBDL for Dakota, will be joined on the team by Nets’ first round pick Sean Williams. There are 14 players on the Nets’ summer league roster. The 15-games making up the schedule will be shown on the internet at OrlandoMagic.com live from the RDV Sportsplex.
Also playing in the league will be entries from Orlando, Miami, Indiana, Charlotte and Chicago.
Burrell, who wrapped up his UNCG career in 2005, will be playing for Seattle in the Las Vegas Summer League. Burrell, who spent last season playing in France, will be joined on the roster by Kevin Durant, the second overall pick in this year’s draft. All 55 games of the Las Vegas league will be broadcast via television or the internet, 28 of them live on NBA TV. Burrell, who turns 24 later this month, and the Sonics open play Friday night against Dallas at 6 pm (ET). That game will be televised by NBA TV on a tape-delay basis, being shown Saturday at midnight ET. All of the leagues games are being played at UNLV ‘s Thomas & Mack Center and the Cox Pavilion.
The NBA Las Vegas Summer League consists of 22 total teams, 21 NBA squads and the Chinese National Team with the schedule concluding on July 15. Seattle will also play in the Rocky Mountain Revue in Salt Lake City, UT from July 13-20.
