Hines earns fourth all-state selection from state's SIDs

GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro’s Kyle Hines became the first player to ever earn four all-state selections when the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division All-State men’s basketball teams were released Tuesday.

Three unanimous selections headline the team, including Davidson College sophomore Stephen Curry, senior Arizona Reid of High Point University and Kyle Hines of the UNC Greensboro, the first four-time all-state men’s hoops selection. Davidson, which competes Friday in the Sweet Sixteen round of the NCAA Division I Tournament, placed two students on the team, as did the UNC Wilmington.

Hines, who also earned his third straight USBWA All-District selection this season, set career records at UNCG with 2,187 points, 1,047 rebounds and 349 blocks. He is one of 97 players in college basketball history to record 2,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds and one of just six to also have 300 career blocks joining Alonzo Mourning, David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Pervis Ellison and Derrick Coleman. This season, he averaged 19.2 ppg, second in the Southern Conference behind Curry. He also led the conference in blocks with 95 and in rebounding at 9.1 per contest. His 56 steals also ranked among the conference’s leaders. He became just the fourth player in the Southern Conference’s 62-years of all-conference selections to become a four-time first-team selection and the first in 20 years.

Hines scored in double figures in each of his last 81 games, the longest active streak in the nation. He is in the Top 5 among active players in career points, career rebounds, career blocked shots and career double-doubles (45).

The squads consist of student-athletes from the state’s NCAA Division I colleges and universities. North Carolina sports information professionals submitted nominees and NCCSIA members selected the teams. The all-state basketball units consist of the top 10 vote-getters and include students involved in ties.

Founded in 2002, NCCSIA is comprised of sports information professionals from North Carolina’s NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions for the purpose of promoting college athletics in the state. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina whose responsibilities include sports information.

NCCSIA selects all-state teams in the university (NCAA Division I) and college (Division II, III, NAIA, NCCAA) divisions for women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, softball and baseball. Over 500 student-athletes have been recognized on all-state teams since 2003.
