Hines earns Player of the Month for January

SPARTANBURG, SC – UNC Greensboro junior forward Kyle Hines was named the Southern Conference’s Player of the Month for January on Thursday.

Hines scored 20 or more points in six of the Spartans’ nine games in January.  He averaged 21.8 points and 8.7 rebounds and tallied 21 blocks during the month. He shot 57.3 percent from the field in the nine games, shooting 50 percent or better in eight of the nine games.

Hines helped lead the Spartans to a 6-1 league record during the month and averaged 21.1 points and 9.3 rebounds against conference opponents. The month was highlighted with his 33 points in UNCG’s win over Appalachian State on January 18 at Fleming Gym.

It is the fourth Player of the Month award Hines has received in his career out of nine possible in his career thus far. He also earned the award in January each of the last two seasons and was the Player of the Month in December of this season.

For the season, Hines leads the conference in scoring (21.0 ppg), rebounding (9.1 rpg) and blocked shots (51). He is one of four players in the country that leads his respective conference in scoring and rebounding. The Sicklerville, NJ native currently has a streak of 46 consecutive games scoring in double figures.

UNCG (14-12, 11-5 SoCon) returns to action Saturday when it hosts UNC Wilmington in a BracketBusters series match-up. Game time is set for 7 pm.
