SPARTANBURG, SC – UNC Greensboro junior forward Kyle Hines was named the Southern Conference’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Month for December on Thursday.
Hines, an All-American candidate from Sicklerville, NJ, averaged 22.4 points, 11.8 rebounds and more than two blocks per game in UNCG’s five games last month. He shot 55 percent from the floor and topped the 20-point mark in three of the five games. Among those three games, he had a 30-point night against Davidson to go along with five blocks, the 16th time in his career that Hines recorded five or more blocks in a game.
It is third Player of the Month award Hines has received in his career out of eight possible thus far. He also earned the award in January each of the last two seasons.
Hines currently leads the Southern Conference in scoring (21.5 ppg), rebounding (9.9 rpg) and blocked shots (2.4 bpg). He has seven double-doubles already this season and currently has a 36-game streak of scoring in double figures. With 21 points in Wednesday’s loss at Virginia Tech, Hines moved into eighth place on the UNCG career scoring list. He is also fourth all-time at UNCG in rebounding and is the school’s leader in blocked shots.
UNCG (7-9) hosts Chattanooga at Fleming Gym on Saturday night. Tip off is set for 7 pm.
