Ricky Hickman named SoCon Men's Basketball Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, SC – UNC Greensboro junior guard Ricky Hickman was named the Southern Conference’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday for his outstanding play in UNCG’s two wins last week.

Hickman, a native of Kernersville, NC, scored 36 of his 45 points in the second half of the Spartans’ wins last week. He had 17 points in the second half, 15 of them in the final 7:34, as UNCG topped East Carolina, 78-70, on Tuesday night in Greenville. He hit 6-of-7 field goals in the second half to help UNCG to the win.

He followed that up with 19 of his 21 points in the second half of UNCG’s 76-68 win over Gardner-Webb on Sunday at Fleming Gym. After struggling in the first half, missing seven of his eight shots from the field, he bounced back to hit 4-of-5 from the floor and 9-of-11 from the line to help UNCG to the win.

For the season, Hickman is averaging 18.2 ppg, which would be second-best in the SoCon if he met the minimum number of games played. He has scored 20 or more points in three of his six games played this season.

The Spartans (6-3) host next-door neighbor Greensboro College on Friday at 7 pm at Fleming Gym.
