SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG redshirt senior third baseman Trevor Edwards has been named to the 2013 preseason All-Southern Conference Baseball First Team, according to an announcement Wednesday by the league. Placement on the teams was determined through a vote of the SoCon's head coaches.

The selection marks the second straight for the Canada native as he earned a first team nod as a catcher prior to the 2012 campaign.

Edwards finished the season ranked 25th nationally in home runs and 49th in slugging percentage (.599) while ending up tied for third in the Southern Conference in home runs and fifth in slugging percentage. He committed no errors in 138 chances while posting 126 putouts and 12 assists. 

Edwards ranked first on the squad in home runs, second in runs scored and triples, third in doubles and putouts, and fourth in hits, turning in the program's third-highest single-season home run total. He pounded out five hits in six at bats with a home run, two doubles and three RBI to help the Spartans knock off No. 10 North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Edwards then delivered a pair of home runs in a 5-1 win at Western Carolina. 

The then junior started all 47 games he played and batted cleanup in 35 games with a .282 average, 11 home runs, nine doubles and 28 RBI. He posted multiple hits in 11 games and batted .356 while driving in 16 runs with two outs on the board. Edwards will enter the 2013 season with a hitting streak of seven contests.

The Spartans open the 2013 campaign Feb. 15 when they welcome Army to the UNCG Baseball Stadium for a three-game series.
