Baseball Concludes Fall Workouts With Blue-Grey World Series

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG baseball team, led by first-year head coach Link Jarrett, concluded its fall team workouts last week with the Blue-Grey World Series at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.

The Blue Team won the two-day competition which was determined by runs as well as a detailed pitch-by-pitch scoring system.

"Our guys enjoyed the competition of the World Series and the scoring system put an emphasis on the finer points within the game that we have stressed this fall," Jarrett said. "Overall, the quality of our bats was fairly good and there were several pitchers that pitched with command of multiple pitches while also controlling the running game. The team practice segment ended on a positive note with a lot of energy, and we look forward to moving into our skill session."

Senior left-handed pitcher Corey Taylor, a standout performer in the Cal Ripken League this summer, turned in three innings of shutout baseball and allowed just one hit while posting a strikeout and a walk. Redshirt sophomore southpaw Blair Betts pitched two scoreless and hitless innings in relief – recording one strikeout and a walk. Additionally, redshirt sophomore left-hander Caleb Henley worked around a trio of walks to limit batters to a single run on two hits in two and a third innings.

Sophomore Eric Kalbfleisch was the top performer at the plate with five hits and two RBI in the pair of contests. Highly-touted junior catcher Cambric Moye also chipped in with a home run as part of a four-RBI effort. Other standout hitters included freshman outfielder Julian Abreu who racked up three hits in one of the games while reaching base four total times, and senior infielder Trevor Edwards, who contributed three RBI and reached the base paths four times.
