GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG Baseball Stadium earned some national recognition last week as Eric Sorenson of eastonbaseball.com named the facility No. 2 on his national "Best 1,000ish Seat Stadiums" list.

The stadium, which was built at a cost of $5.4 million, is set on approximately 13 acres and includes a state-of-the-art field, offices for all three coaches, a press box, a ticket office, concession building, public restrooms and a grounds maintenance building. Prior to the 2008 season, a new scoreboard with a video system was unveiled.

In the fall of 2010, work was completed on a $2.3 million fieldhouse located along the first base line. The new 10,000-square-foot facility provides numerous uses for the program. The building features a team locker room, a lounge area for players, a locker room for the coaching staff, two batting cages, an equipment room and a training room. The Major League-sized dugouts are equipped with restrooms along with phones to the bullpens and press box for easy communication.

The stadium includes 889 permanent fold-down seats and grass slopes along both foul lines that provide space for additional seating. With the availability of the additional seating, the capacity of UNCG Baseball Stadium can approach 3,500 spectators. The facility was dedicated when the Spartans played George Washington Feb. 12, 1999 before an overflow crowd of 1,835.

The facility was the site of UNCG's first win over a No. 1 team as the Spartans defeated top-ranked North Carolina April 18, 2006 by a score of 7-6. The Tar Heels advanced to the national championship game later that year.
