Played four years for coach Mike Jacobs at West Johnston High School in Benson, N.C. ... was the conference player of the year his senior season and named to the all-state team ... he was also an all-conference selection twice ... played in the State Games as a junior and senior ... led his team in homeruns with eight his senior season ... also was a three-year letterwinner in football where he was an all-conference selection ... played one season of soccer and was named all-conference and all-district ... also played three seasons of basketball ... was a member of the National Honor Society.
