Storylines:
• Coming off its third-straight Southern Conference series win, UNCG will look to complete a season sweep over nearby High Point on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Williard Stadium.
• Last weekend, UNCG traveled to College of Charleston for a battle of second place teams. UNCG blew a 4-2 lead in the ninth inning on Friday as the Cougars tied the game at four, but the Spartans battled back in extra innings to pull out the 5-4 win in 11 innings. On Saturday, UNCG held a 5-4 going into the bottom of the ninth, but CofC rallied with a two-run walk-off single to win 6-5. In the rubber game on Sunday, the Spartans trailed 6-2 in the ninth, but had a furious seven-run rally to win 9-6 and claim the series from the Cougars.
• UNCG trails the all-time series against High Point, 14-7, dating back to 1991. Less than two weeks ago, UNCG hosted the Panthers at the UNCG Baseball Stadium and came away with the 10-3 win. The Spartans scored nine unanswered runs in the contest and Cody Walker went 3-4 with a pair of RBI to lead the team to victory.
• High Point comes into the game with a 21-26 record overall and a 7-14 mark in the Big South. The Panthers have currently lost six games in a row, dating back to a 11-2 setback against Coastal Carolina on April 23. This past weekend, High Point was swept in a three-game series at home against Charleston Southern.
• Two weekends ago, UNCG hosted then-first place Georgia Southern for a three-game set at the UNCG Baseball Stadium. UNCG edged the Eagles in the first game on Friday, 3-2, before clinching the series on Saturday with a 7-6 win in 10 innings. The Spartans made it a clean sweep on Sunday as Colby Hyatt pitched a complete game in the 8-3 victory.
• UNCG has had a lot of success this season playing "small ball". The Spartans lead the SoCon with 71 sacrifice bunts this year, 25 more than any other team in the league. In fact, UNCG is currently tied for third nationally in sacrifice bunts. UNCG has also done it on the base paths as they are 42-51 on stolen base attempts.
• The Spartans have received a boost from the back of their rotation in Colby Hyatt. Hyatt currently has a staff-best 3.75 ERA and is 7-2 so far this season. Hyatt has also pitched a team-best 72 innings this season, which ranks sixth in the SoCon. Also, he has only walked 11 batters all year, which is second in the conference.
• Teammates Trevor Edwards and Chris Barker have been in the line of fire this season as both are in the top-5 in the SoCon in hit by pitches. Edwards currently is tied for first in the conference after being hit 15 times already, while Barker has been hit on 13 different occasions. Last season, Barker finished fourth in the nation after being hit by a pitch 26 times.
• UNCG's sweep of Western Carolina on March 11-13 was the first weekend sweep for the Spartans in Southern Conference play since May of 2008 when UNCG swept College of Charleston. It was also the first time UNCG had swept Western Carolina in a series since 2004 when the Spartans completed the feat on the road.
• On Jan. 19, the UNCG baseball team reached a milestone in the 21st season of the program. The 10-9 walk-off win on Saturday gave head coach Mike Gaski his 600th career win. The win was also the 600th in program history as Gaski has been the lone skipper for the Spartans over the past 21 seasons.
• Following the 2010 season, junior Blake Hassebrock was drafted in the 8th round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft by the Oakland Athletics. It marked the second-straight season that UNCG has had a player drafted in the 8th round by the Athletics as Rob Gilliam was selected in that slot in 2009. Hassebrock signed with the Athletics a few weeks after being drafted and ended his season with the Vancouver Canadians. UNCG has now had at least one pitcher drafted in 12 of the past 14 seasons.
• UNCG has made admission free for all home games this season at the UNCG Baseball Stadium. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the Spartans all season long on campus.
