UNCG named Team of the Week, enter mid-major top-25
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Coming off a week that saw the team go 4-0, the UNCG baseball team has been named the CollegeBaseballInsider.com (CBI) Team of the Week and also found itself in the CollegeBaseballDaily.com Mid-Major Poll for the first time this week.
Last week, UNCG took down High Point, 10-3, in its lone midweek game on Wednesday. Then last weekend, the Spartans hosted then-first place Georgia Southern for a three-game Southern Conference series. UNCG would come away with a series sweep after winning 3-2 on Friday, 7-6 on Saturday in 10 innings and then 8-3 on Sunday.
It marks the first time that UNCG has been named the National Team of the Week by CBI.
The team also vaulted into the mid-major top-25 at CollegeBaseballDaily.com. The Spartans jumped into the rankings in part because of their sweep of Georgia Southern, which was ranked No. 6 in the poll last week.
The Spartans will face College of Charleston this weekend in a three-game series. The Cougars check in at No. 15 in the weekly poll.
