UNCG unveils 2011 baseball slate
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG will play 54 regular season games in 2011, including 19 of its first 20 at home and five midweek games against ACC foes, coach Mike Gaski announced on Tuesday afternoon.
The Spartans will begin the season at home with a three-game series against Delaware on Feb. 19-21 before hosting UNC Asheville on Feb. 22 in the first midweek game of the season. It will be the first time since 2005 that the Spartans have played Delaware.
For the second-straight season, UNCG will host Cleveland State for a three-game set on Feb. 25-27. The Spartans will then hit the road for the first time all season as they make the short trip to Winston-Salem to face Wake Forest.
UNCG will then begin a 12-game homestand by playing Albany in a weekend series. The Spartans then host St. John's for a midweek game in the first-ever meeting between the two schools, before opening Southern Conference play by hosting Western Carolina March 11-13 for a series.
The homestand will continue on March 16 as the Spartans host Princeton in a midweek game before returning to SoCon competition with a three-game series with Appalachian State. The homestand will end with a home game against North Carolina A&T on March 23.
The Spartans will hit the road for the first time in conference play on March 25-27 as they travel to Furman for a three-game set. UNCG then returns home for six-straight games at home, beginning with a March 29 matchup against NC State.
UNCG will then hold its annual game against cross-town rival North Carolina A&T at NewBridge Bank Park, home of the Greensboro Grasshoppers, on March 30. Elon will then come to town that weekend for a weekend series, before the homestand is wrapped up by hosting Duke for a midweek game.
The Spartans will then hit the road for a weekend series for just the second time all year on April 8-10 as they travel to Davidson before wrapping up their home and home series with Wake Forest by hosting them on April 12.
UNCG will step away from SoCon play on April 15-17 by hosting James Madison for a nonconference weekend series. The Spartans will then have a midweek match at Duke before traveling to Birmingham, Ala. for a three-game series against Samford.
The team will then return home to the confines of UNCG Baseball Stadium for a midweek game against High Point before hosting Georgia Southern for a three game series on April 29-May 1. UNCG will then hit the road again for a weekend series at College of Charleston May 6-8.
UNCG will play its final midweek game of the season on May 10 on the road at High Point before hosting its final three-game series with The Citadel on May 13-15.
The Spartans will wrap up the season with a weekend road trip to Wofford where the teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday before heading to the SoCon Championships on May 25-29, in Charleston, S.C.
