GREENSBORO, N.C. - Three major projects continue to progress through the summer months in the UNCG athletic complex.

 

As the start of fall practices is only a month away for some of the Spartan athletic teams, construction crews are continuing their work at the UNCG Baseball Stadium and the UNCG Tennis Courts. A third project has also just gotten underway in the complete renovation of the HHP Building's locker room facilities.

 

In the HHP building, crews are in the demolition phase at the present time, knocking down walls to complete renovate and replace the athletic locker rooms in the building. The HHP building has previously provided locker room space for virtually all of the Spartan athletic teams. The project will displace many of those teams into temporary locker rooms throughout the 2010-11 season.

 

Across Walker Ave., the baseball program is anxiously awaiting its new locker room area inside of the fieldhouse that is being constructed. In November 2009, ground was broken on the brand new $2.3 million fieldhouse that is being constructed along the first base line of the stadium.

 

The new 10,000 square foot facility will provide numerous uses for the program. The building will have a team locker room and players lounge, as well as a coaches locker room. It will also consist of a pair of batting cages for the players to use. An equipment room and training will be in the facility, too.

 

A fieldhouse was originally intended to be included when the stadium was built in 1998. The plan, however, was altered in favor of a student intramural complex located next door. Instead, this clubhouse includes more amenities than the original design. The building will be ready for the 2011 baseball season with an anticipated move-in sometime during the team's fall practice slate.

 

The UNCG Tennis Courts have also undergone a signficant facelift during the summer months. The courts have been completely resurfaced and have been changed to a more attractive blue court -- sometimes called "US Open-style" as Flushing Meadows switched to them prior to 2005. The Australian Open followed suit in 2008.

 

The facility will also be outfitted with various Spartan marks and is having its drainage upgraded and serviced.
