Overholtzer named SoCon Player of the Week
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - UNC Greensboro senior Corey Overholtzer has been named the Southern Conference Baseball Player of the Week from the opening weekend of the 2010 baseball season.
Overholtzer played a pivotal role in the Spartans' three-game sweep of Cleveland State this past weekend. He finished the weekend 5-9 for at the plate with two home runs, four RBI and seven runs scored.
The centerfielder was instrumental in UNCG's come-from-behind wins on Saturday and Sunday as well. On Saturday, he belted a two-out game-tying homer in the ninth inning as the Spartans went on to win 7-6. On Sunday, Overholtzer hit a solo home run to lead off the eighth inning and had an RBI single in the ninth frame to keep the Spartan rally alive.
For the week, the Frederick, Md., native slugged 1.333 and had an on-base percentage of .733.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday as they travel to No. 11 North Carolina for a 3 p.m. contest.
