Slade earns all-freshman honors
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - After having completed a successful first season as a Spartan, Harry Slade was honored by the league head coaches by being named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
The league's 11 head coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own players, also selected two all-conference teams.
Slade had a breakout season for UNCG as he finished third on the team with a .301 batting average. Slade entered the starting lineup on a regular basis on March 15 against Princeton and immediately produced as he had at least one hit in 16 of the first 18 games he had an official at-bat. During that stretch he hit .408, going 29-71 at the plate, with six doubles, two triples, seven RBI and 16 runs scored.
He finished the season fourth on the team in on-base percentage at .399. He was also fourth in runs scored with 31 and second in hits with 49. He ended the year just behind senior Corey Overholtzer with 11 doubles and drew 25 walks this season, which was good enough for fifth on the team.
He was also a solid outfielder as he only had one error on the year for a .986 fielding percentage, which was third on the team for everyday players.
