GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro baseball head coach Mike Gaski has announced the promotions of Jamie Athas and Dustin Ijames. Athas will become the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Ijames, who was a volunteer assistant last season, will also join the staff as an assistant coach. Both will coach the same positions and hitters as they did last season.
Athas will be entering his second season with UNCG this spring. A 2006 graduate of Arizona State, Athas was an assistant coach at Kent State prior to arriving at UNCG. He played collegiately at Providence and Wake Forest and then spent five seasons in the San Francisco Giants organization.
Ijames graduated from North Carolina A&T in 2006. In his three years at North Carolina A&T, Ijames helped the Aggies to a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship in 2005 and to an NCAA Regional appearance. Also in 2005, Ijames was selected as an Academic All-American. The following season, he picked up Male Academic Athlete of the Year honors.
