Spartans to hold Second Annual Katie Ball Memorial weekend

GREENSBORO, NC – This weekend, UNC Greensboro will host The Citadel for a three-game series as the Spartans battle the Bulldogs in Southern Conference action. The battle on the field will not be the only one waged this weekend. The series this weekend will also coincide with the Second Annual Katie Ball Memorial weekend, which will help in the battle against cancer.

Ball, was a former administrative assistant for the UNCG baseball program from 2002-06, during her time as an undergraduate at UNC Greensboro. Upon graduation, she attended East Carolina University, where she was pursuing her master's degree.

In December 2007, Ball passed away following a courageous battle with a rare form of cancer. In honor of her memory, UNCG began holding the Katie Ball Memorial Weekend and its Strike Out Cancer program.

Throughout every game this weekend, every strikeout will be dedicated to those who have won the fight against cancer, those currently battling the disease and those who have lost the fight. Fans who wish to make a dedication in honor of someone who has battled or is battling cancer are invited to visit the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life tables that will be located at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.

Fans will also have the opportunity to donate money as a collection will be taken during the middle of the sixth innings of each game. All money raised will be donated to Relay for Life UNCG in honor of Ball.
