Former Spartan Guy Welsh called-up to Class "A" Midwest League

APPLETON, WI – Guy Welsh, former infielder for UNC Greensboro baseball, has been promoted from the AZL Mariners, a member of the Arizona Rookie League, to Class A Wisconsin of the Midwest League.

Welsh will join the Seattle Mariners affiliate, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. He was expected to arrive late Thursday, just before the team departs for Burlington, IA to take on the Class A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, the Burlington Bees.

Prior to being called-up to Wisconsin, Welsh held a .228 batting average and collected 18 hits, seven RBI, and 11 runs in his first season in the AZL.

Welsh finished his career at UNCG with a .345 batting average, third best on the team. In his 229 at-bats he tallied 39 runs, 79 hits, and 49 RBIs. In addition, Welsh added 20 doubles, 2 triples, 5 homeruns, and three stolen bases.

The Spartans finished the 2007 season with a record of 30-30 overall, 14-13 SoCon.
