SPARTANBURG, SC – UNC Greensboro standout senior Greg Feltes has been named the Southern Conference Baseball Player of the Week for the week ending March 31. This is the third UNCG student-athlete to receive the honor this season.
A native of Rocky River, OH, Feltes led the Spartan sticks this past week after going 9-for-17 (.529). In his five starts, he tallied six runs, six walks, two home runs, two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double.
Both of his home runs were hit in the 9-7 victory over UAlbany on Tuesday evening at the UNCG Baseball Stadium. In his first at-bat, Feltes slammed a 0-2 count solo over the leftfield fence to put the Spartans on the board first with a 1-0 lead. His second solo of the evening capped off the Spartans’ four-run rally in the fourth inning which solidified their lead and the victory over the Great Danes.
In that same game, he recorded a season high three runs scored, eight total bases, and two walks.
Feltes’ .361 batting average is third-best on the team. He is also in the No. 3 spot in slugging percentage (.670), on base percentage (.475), runs scored (29), hits (35), RBI (26), walks (14), and at-bats (97). He leads the team, along with three others, with 25 game starts and is second behind teammate Ricky Orton with 65 total bases and eight home runs.
Feltes is currently on a 14-game hit streak after tallying at least one hit in each of his appearances since the March 11 road game against Clemson.
On Tuesday, UNCG heads to Cary, NC to take on No. 3 North Carolina at the USA Baseball National Training Complex Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6pm. The following day, UNCG will face-off with North Carolina A&T at NewBridge Bank Park, the home of the Greensboro Grasshoppers. First pitch is scheduled for 6pm.
