UNCG's Carrier named to preseason All-Southern Conference team
SPARTANBURG, NC – The Southern Conference announced on Wednesday the results of the preseason baseball coaches poll. UNC Greensboro’s Tim Carrier was selected to the preseason All-Southern Conference first-team as a second baseman.
Carrier, a senior from Irvine, CA, finished the 2007 season ranked fifth in the league in hits (91) and sixth in total bases (125). He is currently tied with former Spartan, Dominic Pattie, for UNCG’s top single-season at-bat record after tapping the plate 260 times last year. His plate performance also landed him in the No. 3 spot on UNCG’s single-season hit list.
As a team, the Spartans were picked to place seventh in the SoCon after receiving 51 votes. College of Charleston took the No. 1 spot with five first-place votes and a total of 86. The Cougars are followed by Western Carolina, Georgia Southern, Elon, The Citadel, and Appalachian State. Rounding out the 10 teams are Wofford, Furman, and Davidson.
The Spartan season opener is scheduled for February 22 as they host Kent State for a three-game series at the UNCG Baseball Stadium. First pitch for Friday’s game is set for 4pm.
