WILMINGTON, NC - UNC Greensboro first baseman Ricky Orton has been named to the 12-person North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) All-State team as a vote of Sports Information Directors across the state.

UNCG eliminated in semifinals; fall to Elon, 12-4
CHARLESTON, SC With a two-run homer by Cory Harrilchak in the first inning of the semifinal round, UNC Greensboro was eliminated from the 2008 Southern Conference Baseball Tournament. The Phoenix homered in the first, second, and fourth innings to lead their way to a 12-4 victory over UNCG at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

Feltes hits second slam of the tournament to eliminate GSU
CHARLESTON, SC Senior Greg Feltes hit his second grand slam of the tournament in the seventh to help push UNC Greensboro past Georgia Southern, 12-9, in Game 10 of the 2008 Southern Conference Baseball Tournament. The slam over the left field scoreboard was not only Feltes second of the tournament, but his second of the season and the third of his career.

UNCG out hit by GSU; Spartans drop game four, 21-9
CHARLESTON, SC After the first pitch of the 2008 Southern Conference Baseball Tournaments game four was pushed back two hours and fifteen minutes, UNC Greensboro dropped their first game of the tournament to Georgia Southern. UNCGs tie-breaking, one-run lead was lost in the sixth as the Eagles scored 14 runs in three innings to take a 21-9, game four victory on Wednesday evening/Thursday morning at Joseph P. Riley Park. The three hour and 51 minute game lasted until shortly after 2am.

GREENSBORO, NC A solo home run by Matt Webb in the fourth gave Davidson a one-run lead over UNCG Greensboro. After adding on five more, the Wildcats held off the Spartans for a 6-2 victory on Friday evening at UNCG Baseball Stadium. With the win, the Wildcats took the final regular season Southern Conference series from the hands of UNCG.

STATESBORO, GA UNC Greensboro dropped both ends of a Saturday, Southern Conference doubleheader after giving up a total of 30 runs to Georgia Southern at JI Clements Stadium. A pair of grand slams in game one pushed the Eagles ahead of UNCG, 20-6, and the Spartans lost a close 10-9 decision in game two after putting up a game high four runs in the final inning.

STATESBORO, GA Four home runs in the first two innings gave Georgia Southern a nine-run lead over UNC Greensboro in game one of a three-game series at JI Clements Stadium. Two of those home runs belonged to A.J. Wirnsberger who for the fourth time in his career sent two out in one game. Despite its own two home runs, UNCG fell to the Eagles, 14-2, in the Friday night opener.

Deleo hits game-winner; Spartans win, 18-17; Complete sweep over CofC
GREENSBORO, NC UNC Greensboros Southern Conference sweep over the College of Charleston came down to the final inning as the teams headed into the ninth tied at 17-17. With two away, senior Adam Deleo punched a single into right field to bring around senior second baseman Tim Carrier for the 18-17 game-winner and give UNCG their first ever three-game sweep over the Cougars.

Orton hits record high three homers to lead Spartans over Cougars, 12-9
GREENSBORO, NC After knocking the College of Charleston out of their Southern Conference first-place standing on Friday evening, Ricky Orton smacked a single game record three home runs to bring in seven and help lead the UNC Greensboro ball club, 12-9, over Charleston. Orton is now tied with former Spartans Steve Mokan and Tonka Maynor for the single game record. His three, combined with two others, tied UNCGs season high five homers in one game recorded on April 12 against Wofford.

GREENSBORO, NC Through over seven innings on the mound, UNC Greensboros Greg Martin held the College of Charleston to just eight hits on the evening to help hold off the Cougars for the 6-3 victory Friday night at UNCG Baseball Stadium. This was UNCGs first home victory and first conference win since the 10-9 win over Elon on April 25.

The Spartans held the Bulldogs to just one more run through to the ninth, but unable to plate more than three, the blue and gold fell to Asheville Wednesday evening at UNCG Baseball Stadium.

UNCG falls in extra innings to Elon, 4-3, in series finale
GREENSBORO, NC After heading into their fifth extra inning game of the season, UNC Greensboro dropped a tough 4-3 loss to Elon at UNCG Baseball Stadium. The Phoenix held a three-run lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. Donny Jobe and Cory Harrilchak tallied a run each as both players homered out to right field. A run scored in the bottom of the sixth by the Spartans and two more tallied in the eighth tied the game at 3-3. After no change through regulation, Elons Bennett Davis sent a high fly ball to right field. Once the ball was caught, Harry Austin got the go ahead home to score the game-winning run.

GREENSBORO, NC A two-run homerun by Elons Bennett Davis in the ninth pushed the Phoenix ahead of UNC Greensboro, 5-4. After holding off the Spartans in the bottom half of the inning, Elon came away with the Saturday afternoon victory and tied the weekend series at apiece.

GREENSBORO, NC Freshman third baseman Ray Quinones went yard in back-to-back at-bats to lead UNC Greensboro to a 13-2 victory over the visiting Princeton Tigers on Monday evening. Not only was the St. Patricks Day win the fifth straight at home for UNCG, but it also gave them their second sweep of the season. The first occurred February 29-March 2 when the blue and gold swept the Connecticut Huskies at UNCG Baseball Stadium, winning 18-1, 15-6, and 1-0.

GREENSBORO, NC On Tuesday, UNC Greensboro head baseball coach Mike Gaski announced the 2008 baseball schedule. The 56-game season includes 38 home games, 18 away games, nine conference series, and the Southern Conference Championship Tournament held in Charleston, SC.

Mason named MiLB.coms Double-A Starting Pitcher of the Year
ST. PETERSBURG, FL Former UNC Greensboro baseball standout Chris Mason has added yet another baseball honor to his long list of accomplishments this season. The 23-year-old righthander from Cherryville, NC was named the MiLB.coms Double-A Starting Pitcher of the Year after going 15-4 with a 2.57 ERA in 28 starts with the Montgomery Biscuits.

Alumn Chris Mason named Southern Leagues Most Outstanding Pitcher
MONTGOMERY, AL Former UNC Greensboro baseball standout Chris Mason was named the Southern Leagues Most Outstanding Pitcher on August 30. The 23-year-old righthander was in Alabama this season with the Montgomery Biscuits, a Tampa Bay Devils Rays affiliate in the Class AA Southern League. He was the first Biscuit to receive this award.

UNCG to host 12th annual alumni baseball game
GREENSBORO, NC - On Saturday, September 29 the UNC Greensboro baseball team will host the 12th annual UNCG baseball alumni game. The 2:00pm game will feature former UNCG players against the current 2007-08 lineup. Alumni batting practice will take place at 1:00pm.

Roberts named to Florida State Hall of Fame
TALLAHASSEE, FL On Friday, September 7 UNC Greensboro assistant baseball coach, Chris Roberts was inducted into the Florida State Hall of Fame along with eight other former FSU student-athletes. Roberts received the honor due to his accomplishments in baseball.

Orton, Carrier, and the Havasu Heat NBC World Series Champions
WICHITA. KS - UNC Greensboros Ricky Orton and Tim Carrier, both California natives, helped the Havasu (AZ) Heat to a 14-2 win over the Hays (KS) Larks yesterday to win the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, KS. The Heat routed the Larks at the Lawrence-Dumont Stadium not only winning the championship title, but doing so in fashion undefeated.
