Mitchell tabbed SoCon Player of the Month

GREENSBORO, NC – One day after being drafted by the Oakland A’s, UNC Greensboro junior outfielder Jermaine Mitchell was named the Southern Conference’s Baseball Player of the Month for his outstanding play in the month of May.

Mitchell, a junior from Daingerfield, TX, batted .529 during the month of May. A first-team All-SoCon selection, tallied 27 hits and 17 RBIs in 51 at-bats. Mitchell concluded the Spartans’ 2006 campaign first in the league in batting average (.397) overall and in conference play (.458).

On Tuesday, Mitchell was selected in the fifth round of the 2006 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. He was the 158th player selected, making him the second-highest draft selection in school history.
