GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG Chancellor Linda Brady signed a university proclamation Tuesday that declares each Friday during 2010-11 academic year a “Blue and Gold Day”.

Blue and Gold Days started on the UNCG campus two years ago as UNCG prepared to face Davidson in men’s basketball at the Greensboro Coliseum. Since then, “Blue and Gold Day” has been used periodically during the school year, but will now become a regular occurrence on campus where all members of the campus community are encouraged to sport the university’s colors each Friday beginning this week (Aug. 27).

In the proclamation, it is written: “NOW, THEREFORE, I, Linda P. Brady, Chancellor of The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, do hereby proclaim each Friday during the 2010-2011 academic year to be Blue and Gold Day. It will be a celebration of our University, of our dedication to excellence, of our spirit of camaraderie, and of our demonstration of Spartan Spirit. I call upon each and every Spartan, whether student, faculty, staff, or alumni, to bestow upon themselves the colors and insignia that symbolize this Spartan Spirit.”

As an extension of Blue and Gold Days, UNCG will participate in College Colors Day on Friday, Sept. 3. College Colors Day is an annual celebration dedicated to promoting the traditions and spirit that make the college experience great by encouraging people across America to wear apparel of their favorite college or university throughout the day.

Additionally, College Colors Day, which coincides with “back to school” and the kick-off of intercollegiate athletics, strives to advocate higher education through increased public awareness, and celebrates the achievements of colleges and universities, acknowledging their fundamental importance.

Since its inception in 2005, College Colors Day has grown rapidly across the country. Thousands of organizations and millions of individuals participate annually by donning their team colors and sharing in the college spirit with friends and colleagues.

In celebrating Blue and Gold Day each Friday, UNCGSpartans.com will feature the Blue and Gold Fan of the Day. Fans can submit photos of themselves or their friends and family in their Spartan colors. UNCGSpartans.com will pick a Blue and Gold Fan of the Day and post their photo each week on the front page of the site. Fans may submit their photos at nghawks@uncg.edu.
