UNCG Places 91 Student-Athletes On SoCon Academic Honor Roll
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG had 92
student-athletes honored on the 2011-12 Southern Conference
Academic Honor Roll, which recognizes a grade point average of 3.0
or higher. The Spartans also had 40 student-athletes earn
Commissioner’s Medal accolades, which marks GPA of 3.50 or
higher.
Men’s soccer boasted the most selections on the SoCon
Academic Honor Roll with 16 members, while the women’s soccer
program had 15 student-athletes honored. The women’s soccer
program also had a program-high eight student athletes earn
Commissioner’s Medals.
Additionally, the UNCG women’s cross country team placed 10
student-athletes on the list while baseball had nine members
honors. Rounding out the SoCon Academic Honor Roll by team include
men’s cross country (8), women’s tennis (7),
men’s basketball (5), men’s golf
(5), women’s golf (4), women’s basketball (4),
softball (4), volleyball (3) and men’s tennis (2).
More than 1,900 student-athletes from the 12 member institutions
were named to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll this year. The 1,950
student-athletes recognized is the second-highest total of honorees
since the league began compiling its annual honor in 1989. The
average GPA of the student-athletes was 3.46, and 45 percent of the
recognized student-athletes achieved at least a 3.50 GPA, including
90 who posting a 4.0.
The academic honor roll consists of student-athletes who
participated in varsity sports at member institutions and posted a
3.0 grade point average or higher while passing at least 24 hours
in two semesters of classes or its equivalent for other academic
calendars.
