Spartan Club Exceeds Annual Scholarship Goal For 2011-12
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG Spartan Club, the official fundraising organization for UNCG Athletics, surpassed its annual scholarship fund goal of $300,000 for the 2012 fiscal year and set a new all-time record for the scholarship fund. The Spartan Club posted an annual scholarship fund total of $307,479, a 20.7% increase over last year’s total, increasing their efforts by over $50,000 and surpassing the previous high that was set in 1987.
"Our Spartan alumni, friends and fans are an important part of
our team and their financial support is critical to our success,"
said Director of Athletics Kim Record. "When we talk about
doing things ‘The Spartan Way’ - discovering and
developing champions in life, it includes the people who see the
value in scholarship support for students whose talent is
athletics."
One hundred percent of the Spartan Club membership dues go to the scholarship fund in support of UNCG’s student-athletes. Growing scholarship funds is critical for the athletic department to continue to provide the best possible education and athletic experience for all UNCG student-athletes.
"We are grateful to all of the generous contributors who stepped up on behalf of our student-athletes and coaches this year," said Associate Athletic Director for Advancement Craig Fink. “It was a fantastic year on the fields of play and in the classroom for UNCG athletics and now we can say it was a great year for the Spartan Club as well. We want to send out a big thank you to the hundreds of individuals who joined the Spartan Club and helped us reach our goal."
The mission of the Spartan Club is to secure the financial support that will provide our student-athletes with the opportunities to achieve academic and athletic excellence. As a non-profit organization, the Spartan Club supports more than 200 student-athletes who compete in 17 varsity sports at the Division I level.
