GREENSBORO, N.C. – A school-record 12 UNCG student-athletes were inducted into the school’s prestigious Golden Chain Honor Society on Sunday.

Women’s soccer and women’s cross country and track led the way for UNCG with three inductees each. Jaimey Etten, Kelsey Kearney and Stephanie Partenheimer represented the women’s soccer team, while Chelsea Sumney, Shaina Sumney and Emily Vasquez were selected from the cross country and track teams.

Men’s golf had two student-athletes inducted in Robert Hoadley and Matt Younts, while Brian Carrington (men’s cross country and track), Peyton Ford (men’s soccer), Kyle Randall (men’s basketball) and Courtney Taylor (women’s golf) were also inducted into the honor society.

The 12 inductees from the athletic department shattered the previous record of eight, set in 2010.

The Golden Chain Honor Society seeks to recognize UNCG students for outstanding achievement and service to the university. Founded in 1948, The Golden Chain is unique to the UNCG campus. The seven links of the Golden Chain symbolize the qualities that have always been prerequisite for election to membership: leadership, scholarship, service, tolerance, judgment, magnanimity and character.

Candidates may be nominated by university professors or staff members. Candidates must be academic juniors or seniors at UNCG with an overall grade point average of at least 3.25. The Golden Chain Scholarship is awarded annually and is supported by Society projects and donations from Golden Chain alumni and honorary members.
