UNCG places 26 on Academic All-SoCon Team
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Twenty-six UNCG student-athletes earned spots on the Academic All-Southern Conference Team for the fall semester, the league office announced Monday. Men’s soccer player Peyton Ford and SoCon Female Cross Country Runner of the Year Ashley Schnell accounted for two of the 11 4.0 grade point averages on the 345-member squad.
The 345 student-athletes, who participated in football, volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer and men’s and women’s cross country, recorded a 3.56 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
To be eligible, student-athletes must possess at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average entering the fall season and had to compete in at least one-half of their team’s competitions during the spring campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours in the previous two semesters.
Women’s soccer led the way for UNCG with 10 selections, the second-most in school history behind only the 2004 squad, which put 16 on the team. Men’s and women’s cross country had five selections each, while volleyball and men’s soccer had three each.
