GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG Spartan Club, the official fundraising organization for UNCG Athletics, exceeded its annual scholarship fund goal for the third consecutive year and had a double-digit percentage increase for the third straight year.
The 2013-14 athletic scholarship fund goal was $375,000 and the Spartan Club eclipsed that mark by raising $375,978, an all-time high and a 10 percent increase over last year’s total.
Additionally, the Spartan Club set a record for the number of donors to the athletic scholarship fund with a total of 887 donors. The 887 donors was a 69 percent increase over last year’s total of 524 and broke the previous high of 875 donors set in 1993.
The highlight of the year was the launch of the True Spartan Challenge, a student-athlete giving campaign that saw 100 percent of UNCG student-athletes make a gift back to their team enrichment funds. Also, the number of former Spartan student-athlete donors increased by 56 percent.
One hundred percent of the dollars raised through the Spartan Club membership program goes to scholarship fund in support of UNCG’s student-athletes. Growing scholarship funds is critical for the athletic department to continue to provide the best possible education and athletic experience for all UNCG student-athletes.
The mission of the Spartan Club is to secure the financial support that will provide our student-athletes with the opportunities to achieve academic and athletic excellence. As a non-profit organization, the Spartan Club supports more than 200 student-athletes who compete in 17 varsity sports at the Division I level.
