CHARLESTON, S.C. – The UNCG baseball team has placed five student-athletes on the All-Southern Conference Teams according to an announcement Monday by the league.

The five all-conference honorees mark the most in a single season for the Spartans since the 2000 campaign.

Junior second baseman Hunter King (Mason City, Iowa/Northern Iowa Area CC) and senior third baseman Sean Guite (Huntington Beach, Calif./Irvine Valley CC) were named to the first team by the SoCon coaches while junior shortstop Jordan McDonald (Perth, Australia/Chattanooga State) and junior outfielder Eric Kalbfleisch (Pilot Mountain, N.C./North Stokes) were tabbed to the coaches’ second team. Additionally, the league’s coaches selected rookie RHP Adam Swim (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford) to the All-Freshman Team.

King currently leads UNCG with a .373 batting average (.453 in conference play) while also sporting a team-best 44 RBI and squad-high 16 doubles. The Southern Conference Player of the Month for April also ranks second in the league in batting average and is tied for fourth in doubles. King paces the Spartans with 23 multiple-hit efforts and 13 multiple-RBI performances and has reached base in 31 consecutive contests. He is one of five UNCG players with a double-digit hitting streak this season as he hit safely in every game from March 15-April 11.

King posted his best all-around performance against the Spartans’ Tuesday play-in game opponent as he went 3-for-5 with four runs scored, two doubles and a RBI in a 14-8 victory over Furman on March 22 at the UNCG Baseball Stadium. He also recorded the walk-off home run in the Blue and Gold’s wild 11-10 extra-inning victory over ACC foe Wake Forest Feb. 25 in Greensboro.

As one of the top hitters in the Southern Conference all season, Guite currently ranks second on the team at .369. He paces the Spartans in runs scored, hits, total bases, games played and games started. Among conference players, Guite sits second in runs scored and fourth in batting average and hits. In the latest release of the national statistics, he is 29th in runs per game and 47th in batting average.

Guite owns 21 multiple-hit efforts this season and is on of five Spartans to boast a double-digit hitting streak this campaign. He recorded a base knock in 13-straight contests from March 19-April 11. In a doubleheader against Princeton March 15, Guite tallied nine hits, seven runs scored, a RBI, two doubles and two triples. His six hits and five runs scored in the first contest tied a pair of school records.

McDonald is one of three UNCG players to rank in the top five in the SoCon in batting average as he is currently hitting .365 over 44 games. He leads the squad in slugging percentage, on base percentage, home runs, walks drawn and sacrifice flies. In the league statistics, McDonald is third in sacrifice flies, fifth in batting average and on base percentage and sixth in slugging percentage, McDonald also boasts the longest hitting streak on the team this season, a 17-game stretch that lasted from Feb. 28-April 2.

In his last 10 outings, McDonald has recorded multiple hits six times and has done it in 17 games this year. He has also produced 11 multiple-RBI efforts and has reached base safely in 10 consecutive contests.

After missing most of the non-conference schedule due to injury, Kalbfleisch turned in a solid campaign that has seen him bat .309 in 29 games. During the span, he has tallied 38 hits, 27 runs scored, nine doubles, five home runs and 25 RBI.

Kalbfleisch has produced eight multiple-RBI contests, one of which occurred against Furman on March 22 in which he hit a grand slam while adding two runs scored in UNCG’s 8-6 series clinching victory.

A local product, Swim enjoyed a solid debut season on the bump for the Spartans. He currently sports a team-best 2.30 earned run average over 27.1 innings pitched. He has appeared in a team second-best 24 games and holds a 4-1 record. Of the 16 runs Swim has allowed, only seven have been earned. He picked up a save at East Carolina March 11 before recording his second save March 22 against Furman at home. Additionally, Swim has allowed just five extra-base hits this season and has given up just three earned runs in his last 19 outings.

In addition to the coaches’ selections, King and McDonald were tabbed to the media all-conference second team.

UNCG will face Furman in a Southern Conference Championship play-in game Tuesday at noon inside Riley Park in Charleston. The winner advances into the main double-elimination portion of the bracket and will meet regular season champion Western Carolina Wednesday at 1 p.m.
