GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore Allison Geiner (Raleigh, N.C./Middle Creek) lined a two-run double in the sixth to propel the UNCG softball team over Bucknell, 4-2, in the final game of the UNCW Beach Bash Sunday afternoon at Boseman Field.
The Spartans improve to 8-8 on the season going 4-1 at the UNCW Beach Bash with two victories against Bucknell. The Bison fall to 2-7 with the loss.

Multiple UNCG batters finished the game with two hits. Geiner was 2-for-4 with two RBI, senior Katelyn Bedwell (Surrey, B.C./Elgin Park) went 2-for-3, sophomore Danielle Vega (Rialto, Calif./Aquinas) was 2-for-2 with an RBI and junior Tatiana Alcala (Oxnard, Calif./Pacifica) went 2-for-3.
Senior Raeanne Hanks (Rainier, Ore./Rainier Senior) earned the complete game throwing seven innings, allowing just two earned runs on four hits with a season-best 11 strikeouts. Hanks is 6-3 on the season and has allowed just two earned runs in her last 14 innings.
The Spartans jumped on the board with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the first inning. Geiner started the inning with an infield single. Sophomore Lindsay Thomas (Irvine, Calif./Northwood) moved Geiner to second after a sacrifice bunt. Bedwell, celebrating her 22nd birthday, came just short of a home run hitting the right centerfield fence to score Geiner. Vega lined an RBI single up the middle to give UNCG a 2-0 lead.
In the sixth inning, Bucknell would rally to tie the game at 2-2 on a two-run double to centerfield from Cydnee Sanders. With two outs, the Bison put together three-straight hits to tie the game at 2-2. Jacee Almond singled up the middle followed by a singled from Mallory Lyons to setup the tying hit from Sanders.
UNCG would retake the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth after loading the bases. Vega and Alcala started the frame with back-to-back singles. Pinch-hitter Nicole Thomas (Irvine, Calif./Northwood) worked a walk to load the bases. After two outs, Geiner would deliverer a clutch game-winning double to left field to push across two runs.
In the seventh, Hanks would work a 1-2-3 inning, including two strikeouts to close the game for the Blue and Gold.
The Spartans will face North Carolina A&T on the road Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Greensboro.
UNCG finished the UNCW Beach Bash hitting .336 as a team as five hitters had five or more hits. Alcala was 8-for-14 with five RBI, freshman Tory Wright (Potomac Falls, Va./Dominion) went 8-for-17 with four RBI, Bedwell 7-for-15 with three RBI, Vega 6-for-13 with three RBI and Geiner 5-for-16 with three RBI.
