GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the second straight week, UNCG men’s basketball junior guard/forward Nicholas Paulos (Salt Lake City, Utah/New Hampton School) has been named this week’s Blue Chip Performer sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. This is the second year that BCBSNC has sponsored the Blue Chip Performer award, which is chosen weekly from all sports in season and runs throughout the 2013-14 UNCG Athletics season.
Paulos set a new school record Saturday afternoon by making nine straight three-pointers against Davidson as he finished the night 9-of-9 from distance, scoring 27 points. His performance tops the previous record of eight straight three-pointers in a game by Kendall Toney against USC Upstate (11/24/07).
Paulos’ nine straight three-pointers made was just two shy of the NCAA Division I record of 11 held by Gary Bossert of Niagara in 1987. He has hit 10 straight long distance shots on the year after hitting his last one Thursday against The Citadel. The NCAA Division I record for consecutive makes is 15 by Todd Leslie of Northwestern in 1990 (four-game stretch). Additionally, his nine three-pointers made are tied for second most in a single game in program history (Kevin Oleksiak), trailing only his own record of 10 threes set last year at Chattanooga (2/21/13).
Paulos and the Spartans return to action Thursday evening as they travel to Birmingham, Ala., for a Southern Conference meeting against Samford. Game time is set for 8 p.m. (ET).
