GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s basketball team looks to snap a three-game skid Sunday afternoon, hosting Southern Conference foe Appalachian State at Fleming Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Spartans have dropped nine of their last 10 games with the only victory in that stretch occurring Jan. 4 in a 73-62 decision over Elon in Greensboro. UNCG is 4-6 at home this season (1-3 SoCon) while the Mountaineers are 3-6 on the road (1-2 SoCon). The matchup marks the final scheduled appearance at Fleming Gymnasium for Appalachian State as the Mountaineers will join the Sun Belt Conference next season. ASU leads the all-time series between the schools 31-28 and has captured the last eight meetings.

The Blue and Gold enters the game with a 5-12 overall record and 1-5 league mark after falling to Western Carolina 60-49 Saturday at Fleming Gymnasium. UNCG shot just 23.3 percent from the field in the setback. The Spartans are averaging 63.2 points per game and are allowing opponents to score 72.6 points per contest. The Blue and Gold owns a -1.4 margin on the glass, averaging 39.0 rebounds and giving up 40.4 boards per game. The Spartans are second in the league in offensive rebounding at 15.0 per outing. In terms of shooting, UNCG is firing at a 35.2 percent clip from the field, 32.6 percent from beyond the arc and 68.6 percent from the free throw line.

Senior forward Janae' Stevenson (Columbia, S.C./Eau Claire) leads the team in scoring average at 12.0 points per game and is pulling down a team-best 8.0 rebounds per contest. She also has 57 offensive rebounds to her credit. Freshman center Mariah Wilson (Atlanta, Ga./North Atlanta) is the team leader in blocked shots with 17. The Spartans use their bench liberally as 11 players have appeared in 15 or more games.

Appalachian State is 5-11 overall and 2-4 in Southern Conference action after suffering a 66-54 setback Saturday at Elon. The Mountaineers are averaging 62.0 points per game while giving up 66.6. ASU also pulls down 40.4 rebounds per contest while allowing just 35.1 - a rebounding margin of +5.3. The Mountaineers are shooting 41.4 percent from the field, 32.5 percent from deep and 61.9 percent at the free throw line.

Junior Maryah Sydnor is the top offensive force for Appalachian State, averaging right at 20 points per game. She also leads the team with a rebounding average of 8.6 per contest.

UNCG hits the road next weekend, traveling to South Carolina for a pair of league contests at Wofford (Jan. 25) and Furman (Jan. 27).
