GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the second-straight week, senior forward Janae' Stevenson (Columbia, S.C./Eau Claire) has been named the UNCG Blue Chip Performer sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. This is the second year that BCBSNC has sponsored the Blue Chip Performer award, which is chosen weekly from all sports in season and runs throughout the 2013-14 UNCG Athletics season.
Stevenson extended her double-double streak to a school-record five games in the Spartans’ 81-76 victory Sunday over Triad rival High Point. She netted 11 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the contest. Of her rebound total, five were on the offensive glass. Earlier in the week, Stevenson poured in 21 points and corralled 14 rebounds against VCU.
Stevenson is averaging a double-double for the season at 13.6 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. She leads the Southern Conference in rebounding average and offensive rebounds per game (4.1) while also ranking eighth in scoring average. With 846 career points, Stevenson is within striking range of becoming the 23rd player in program history to eclipse the 1,000-point plateau.
UNCG returns to action Thursday, Dec. 5, continuing a seven-game homestand with a matchup against Atlantic Coast Conference member Clemson. The Spartans and Tigers will tip at 7 p.m. inside Fleming Gymnasium.
