GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women’s golf head coach Sarah Sargent announced the signing of Gabby Weiss (Southern Pines, N.C./Pinecrest) to a national letter of intent Friday afternoon during the early signing period. Weiss will join the Spartans for the 2014-15 season.
“I am very excited to have Gabby join our team next year,” Sargent said. “Her ability to fight for everything on and off the course is going to push our program to the next level. I expect she will jump right into the lineup and come out ready to play.”
Weiss is a two-year letterwinner at Pinecrest High School and a four-year letterwinner during her high school career after moving form Pennsylvania. She is a four-time Conference Player of the Year and Conference champion during her career. She set the Pennsylvania District 11 Girls low score and course record during her career with a 66. She also won the PA District 11 Boys Golf Championship as a freshman.
Weiss followed that up with two NCHSAA Girls Golf records and course records last year, posting a 64 and 65 during the season. She won the Central Regional Girls High School Championship in both 2012-13 and 2013-14. She was the State Championship runner-up in 2012-13 and earn third place in 2013-14.
Weiss also competed in AJGA tournaments; including top five finishes along with qualifier wins. She was named the International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) Rising Star in 2009 and was the IJGT Player of the Year that season.
Weiss intends to major in business at UNCG. She is the daughter of Anne and John Weiss.
